I have always been on the Nvidia side when it comes to graphics cards, they seem more reliable, i was about to choose the 1.5GB Geforce GTX580 for my latest PC but i rather like the sound of the 2GB ATI Radeon HD5970. Can you tell me which card is better and why? Thanks for your help.|||They are both comparable cards, in terms of performance, the 5970 is generally faster, but the GTX 580 does beat it in some benchmarks. One thing to consider the the physical size of the card. The 5970 is huge, it's about foot long and it can't fit an all cases.

What an asinine claim.|||The Geforce GTX580 is much faster at tessellation, although the HD5970 is faster overall because it's effectively two HD5850s. This means that the ATI card is faster at DX9 and DX10, but much slower at DirectX11. The HD5xxx series of cards are quite weak at DX11, I've just replaced my HD5870 with a GTX580 and it's much better, it's a nice card. If the choice was mine I'd pick the GTX580.|||neither... id get an ATI 5770 and overclock it as its cheaper than the above cards you mentioned but can be overclocked to the same speeds.|||The GTX480 nearly matched the 5970 and the GTX580 is faster then the GTX480
