NVidia GTX580 vs GTX580mobile...?

I've been wondering about this question for a bit but I can't exactly make sense of the technical specs of these two cards in comparison to each other. Obviously, the mobile version of the 580 desktop card has to be stripped down somewhere because it's going into a laptop, but can they still be put side by side power-wise?



As in, if a certain game were to require a 580 (as in the desktop version) to run High or Ultra-High Settings, would the mobile version of the 580 also be able to run those settings? How huge is the difference between the desktop and the mobile version of these cards?

PS: I have a 580m in my laptop and I'm curious as to what settings I can expect to run Battlefield 3 on smoothly when it comes out. Like 30+ Frames per second. I assume between medium-high and high-ish? definitely not the Ultra settings though, I've heard that it will require at least two desktop 580s in SLI.



Thanks again!|||Mobile cards are not even the same chipset, or GPU. They are low end cards with a name everyone recognises. For example, the mobile version of the GTX 280 was not a GT200, but actually an old G92 that was in the 9800 GT and was much less powerful. Same goes for these....the GTX 580m mobile has probably less then 40% the throughput as the actual GTX 580. Laptops are not for gaming...people need to understand that...



There is no real way over this text box to teach you how to tell which one is faster based on numbers...that's like trying to teach how to fix a car engine over text...you need to really read information and teach yourself from people better then you with pointed questions but the easiest way to see whats faster is the number of stream processors (nvidia calls them cuda cores)
